Detroit River International Crossing (DRIC) bridge : New Detroit-Windsor bridge a GO >>>

An announcement is made that the $1-billion government-backed Windsor-Detroit downriver bridge will become reality.

An agreement between the state of Michigan and the Canadian federal government appears to have been reached that could finally lead to construction of the long-awaited Detroit River International Crossing (DRIC) bridge.

So The long-awaited second bridge connecting Windsor and Detroit may finally become a reality with a deal signed Friday by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Michigan governor Rick Snyder.

But it is a deal that will see Canadian taxpayers bearing much of the upfront cost of the $3.5 billion project and taking all of the risk to do an end-run around all the political opposition and Michigan and roadblocks thrown up by the billionaire owner of the Ambassador Bridge.

At a press conference Harper hailed the deal as a milestone breakthrough in unclogging traffic through the vital corridor which handles $120 billion in trade annually.
